Happy Birthday! March 29, 2011
More March News! March 24, 2011
Firstly a belated Happy 7th Birthday to Abby who celebrated her birthday yesterday 23rd March. We hope you had a lovely day Abby! Cillian brought in a picture-project he did on the Romans. He even showed that they wore togas!
Yesterday afternoon we did some story writing. We first thought of possible characters and settings. After that the class worked hard letting their imaginations do all the work! Everyone has their own Word Book and if they are stuck on a spelling it is written under the correct letter so that we build up personal dictionaries. We are now working on editing (self-correcting) and fixing up our stories. Have a look at some pictures of our class busy at work:

Some news March 8, 2011

Our nature walk March 3, 2011
Today we went on a minibeast hunt to see if we could find an earthworm, earwigs or other insects. The children found earthworms under a pot of flowers! We had no luck finding earwigs but did manage to see a small slug and some woodlice. We made sure we didn’t disturb the minibeasts and left them where we found them.
We started a new drama based on Oscar Wilde’s story of The Selfish Giant. The drama is called “The Grumpy Old Man” and he has a fantastic garden but does not want any children in his garden. The children imagined what might be in this fantastic garden and then drew a small picture of it. We then did an activity called paper placement where the children placed their picture on the black paper which represented the garden.
